Rhea Santos reunites with Ivan Mayrina in Canada

And they even did their iconic introduction for their popular public affairs show in the mid-2000s.

And they even did their spiels for their popular public affairs show in the mid-2000s one more time.

Through his social media accounts, Kapuso anchor Ivan Mayrina shared something that throwed many of his followers back to the Y2K era.

This, as he did their spiels for the GMA public affairs show Pinoy Abroad during his trip to Canada as part of the press delegation reporting on the official visit of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

But he was not alone in the said clip as he was joined by former long-time Kapuso correspondent Rhea Santos, who is now based in Vancouver.

Together, they flawlessly delivered the introduction of the show that documented the lives and conditions of Filipinos overseas during the mid-2000s.

In the caption, Mayrina shared: “It didn’t take much for both of us to recall the lines, and only a few times-two takes to be exact-to deliver them like it was 2005 all over again.

He also remarked the quirky coincidence of their reunion happening on the 1st of July, which was the same date when they both joined as Segment Producers of Unang Hirit in 2000 — which they would also both host in the years that followed.

Rhea and I worked together in many other shows, specials, and newscasts, until she moved to Canada. She has since found her place and is making a mark here, while I stayed on and I am here now covering PBBM’s official visit,” continued Ivan, who also anchors 24 Oras Weekend.

However, he paid homage to Pinoy Abroad, which he noted as an “unforgettable chapter in both our careers,” and stressed that is “certainly nostalgic” to be doing the spiel one more time.

He also quipped to cue the song’s theme song Malayo Man, Malapit Din by Bayang Barrios.

Meanwhile, the reunion also comes days before Rhea closes a chapter in her newscasting career in Canada.

After almost six years with OMNI Television for its Filipino-language newscast OMNI Filipino, which serves the diaspora, she has signed on to become the new evening anchor of CityNews Vancouver, which is a sister unit of the station.

It’s a bittersweet goodbye to my news family in Canada that gave me opportunities to restart my career when I was starting over as an immigrant,” she said in an Instagram post. “OMNI was my answered prayer when I took a leap of faith and embraced change and uncertainty.”

She noted that she will still remain in the same newsroom with the “amazing people of OMNI,” but will be working with a different team to build and present the evening news in Vancouver.

An exciting chapter in my life is about to begin. I’m scared and I’m ready. I was led here and I’ve been called to do this. I believe there is someone bigger than whatever mixed emotions I’m feeling right now,” she added.

Her last broadcast on OMNI Filipino will be on Friday, July 3 (Canada time), she revealed.
