This, coupled with the recent slate of announcements.
In this post made by TV5 last Friday, June 26, netizens and viewers were left intrigued after seeing the caption a rather conspicuous branding.
Rather than simply mentioning that the upcoming comeback series of Kathryn Bernardo, James Reid and Maja Salavador, Someone, Someday, will air on TV5, the caption read differently as it teased that the program would air on “ABS-CBN sa TV5.”
While that seems to not be the case in the attached video, where a 15-second preview of Kathryn in her character Eva was given, the caption was enough to draw reactions of shock from fans and observers.
A number of netizens raised the question: “ABS-CBN on TV5?”
At present, TV5 did not make any edits to the said post, nor did it delete the post, positively indicating that the said post was not made erroneously. However, it should be noted that since then, no other materials seem to point towards that becoming actual on-air branding anytime soon.
In fact, TV5’s post in other platforms such as Facebook bear a slightly different caption, pointing viewers toward the broadcast of Someone, Someday on its TodoMax Primetime block.
But coupled with the recent announcements of new shows from ABS-CBN coming onto TV5, the speculations about such level of tie-up only get fueled.
BACK TO “NEW NORMAL” PROGRAMMING
It was last June 22 when the Kapatid network officially restarted its more than five-year-long tie-up with the Kapamilya network, which was briefly terminated in January 2026 following a public rift regarding the remittance of advertising income share.
When that was mended, Coco Martin’s Sigabo became the first show to air under the renewed partnership, followed by the simulcast of ABS-CBN’s Blockbusters Sa Umaga movie block and TV5’s Face To Face With Ate Koring, presented by Korina Sanchez-Roxas, on each other’s platforms.
Aside from Someone, Someday, also coming to the Kapatid network in the coming days and weeks are the weekend game shows Kapamilya Deal Or No Deal and Everybody, Sing.
Rumors are also strong that the TV5 primetime series A Secret In Prague and My Bespren Emman might also expand their broadcasts to ABS-CBN platforms, with the latter being touted for a transfer to the afternoons in late July. Although, that is still unconfirmed.
ABS-CBN SA…
It was back in March when ABS-CBN rolled out a new branding across its flagship platforms across terrestrial and cable television, as well as streaming.
Its current main free-to-air platform, ALLTV2, which is owned by Advanced Media Broadcasting System (AMBS) of the family of former Senator Manny Villar, was given boost when the company’s brand was formally attached to it and made the channel ABS-CBN sa ALLTV2.
That had a quirk of marking the end of the nearly six-year-long absence of ABS-CBN as a TV station name.
Since its free-to-air terrestrial mediums, both on TV and radio, were ordered to be closed by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in May 2020, the network had largely shied away from using the name for its outlets.
When they decided to launch a cable and digital platforms, which were not covered by the NTC memorandum, the company picked the name Kapamilya Channel for pay TV and its Kapamilya Online Live for the Facebook and YouTube streams.
Both of which, however, also updated their logos to reflect ABS-CBN as the master brand at the same time as ALLTV2, with the the company’s wordmark logo appearing above their own.
ORIGINAL PROGRAMMING
Should TV5 be next on the table, it is imperative that there could be a different set-up.
Comparing it to ALLTV2, which abandoned producing its own shows early into its run in March 2023, TV5 is a whole different story.
Owned by MediaQuest Holdings, Inc., it does not only have its own in-house production arms like TV5 Entertainment and News5, but it also benefits from the synergy it has with the likes of sister companies Cignal TV and MQuest Ventures for its programming needs.
In fact, it was also able to sustain itself with original shows during the months-long absence of ABS-CBN programming in the first six months of the year.
Going to the point, this means that it would be an extreme move to have the “ABS-CBN sa TV5” branding rolled out for the entirety of the broadcast day, seven days a week.
Hence, the implementation could only be limited to certain timeblocks, such as those they currently occupy on daytime and primetime.
Even then, it would be an interesting sight as during the previous five-year-deal between the two giants — including the near acquisition of a stake by ABS-CBN in TV5 in 2022 — it never came to such stage, where the name of the former leading TV network would be, at this stage, a remote possibility of being affixed to its erstwhile rival station’s channel as an on-air brand.
For now though, the ABS-CBN name on TV5 is only limited to its logo being attached to materials involving its original productions aired on the Kapatid network.
