Marcos is expected to depart the Philippine capital on Wednesday evening (Manila time).
“Ang pagbisita po ng Pangulo sa Canada ay para mas paigtingin pa ang magandang relasyon sa bansang Canada. At nananatiling masigla at matatag ang samahan ng Pilipinas at ng Canada,” said Undersecretary Claire Castro during a Palace press briefing.
As to formal frameworks of cooperation and agreements, expected to be finalized are partnerships in energy, natural resources, trade and investment, labor and immigration, tourism, culture and the arts.
Alongside those, a key highlight of the visit is the bilateral discussions between the Philippine President and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Joseph Carney, which aims to further deepen the partnership between both countries and advance cooperation in key strategic sectors.
Moreover, the two leaders are expected to assess progress in defense and security engagements and efforts to expand trade and investment.
They will also explore avenues to bolster cooperation in enhancing economic resilience, strengthening collaboration in energy and critical minerals, and reinforcing people-to-people linkages.
In addition, Marcos and Carney will also discuss the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship and strategic priorities for the region, with Canada being an ASEAN Dialogue Partner since 1977 and has maintained a Strategic Partnership with the regional bloc since 2023.
The President will be accompanied by First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos during engagements with the Filipino community in Vancouver, British Columbia to recognize the vital contributions of overseas Filipinos to both countries and to the enduring ties between the Philippines and Canada, which is now on its 77th year.
The visit marks the first official visit of a Philippine President to Canada in more than a decade, following former President Benigno Aquino III in 2015.
Meanwhile, former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visited the Philippines in 2017.
