She has been picked to sing the local version of the film’s original soundtrack.
Through a video uploaded on its social media pages, Disney Studios Philippines officially announced that Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11 alum and ASAP XP mainstay Kai Montinola has been chosen to sing the Filipino version of How Far I’ll Go, which is the official theme song of the live-action remake of Moana.
The 19-year-old rising Kapamilya singer is performing the song that has been given the local title Hangganan Ko.
In her greeting, Kai said: “[E]xcited na akong mapakinggan ninyo ang ‘Hagganan Ko,’ ang Filipino version ng ‘How Far I’ll Go’ from Disney’s Moana. Let the ocean lead the way…”
The live-action remake of Moana, which is the one of the most-successful animation movies in the past decade, is top-billed by Catherine Laga’aia as the titular character and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui — the same character he voiced in the animated film.
Meanwhile, prior to Kai, Disney has also tapped other Filipino singers in the past to sing the local theme song of its films.
For the first Moana in 2016, actress-singer Janella Salvador sang the English version for the Philippine release, which she did anew back in 2022 for the promotion of Disney Plus’ launch in the Philippines.
In 2024, meanwhile, New Gen star Belle Mariano sang Ano’ng Daratnan, the Filipino version of Beyond.
The Moana live-action movie will premiere in the Philippines on Wednesday, July 8.
