The meeting was “purely personal,” the Robredo camp described.
In a stunning move on Friday, September 20, incumbent Vice President Sara Duterte was confirmed to have met her predecessor and staunch opposition figure during her father’s regime, Atty. Leni Robredo, in Naga City.
According to Robredo’s spokesperson Atty. Barry Gutierrez, Duterte did not set an appointment to meet the former Vice President in her Naga residence.
Instead, they were informed of VP Duterte’s intention to drop by Atty. Robredo’s place only a few minutes before the current VP’s arrival.
Gutierrez also noted that the two did not have a conversation regarding politics and that they have only talked about personal matters, which were not disclosed.
In their own statement, the Office of the Vice President, Duterte’s visit happened after a certain “Bicolano friend” arranged a casual meeting with former Vice President Leni Robredo.
The said friend is also the one that had invited VP Sara to “experience her first-ever Peñafrancia fiesta” by attending the centennial anniversary mass of the Canonical Coronation of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia” today, September 20.
Apart from which, Duterte also visited “several prominent Bicol personalities and heard mass with ordinary Bicolanos,” the OVP added before closing with a clarifcatory note that the VP “neither looked desperate, nor distressed.”
