After the said date, fines and other rules on late renewal will take effect.

In an advisory, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) clarified that the extension of the validity of driver’s license, student-driver’s license, and vehicle registration are only effective until July 31, 2026.

Until then, there will be no late fees and other charges that will be imposed on vehicle owners and license-holders, in accordance with Memorandum Circular No. MVL-2026-5157 that was issued last April.

“After the said date, expired licenses, permits, and vehicle registrations that have not yet been renewed will be subject to existing rules and corresponding fines for late renewal,” the LTO wrote in its advisory.

Hence, it reminded motorists to renew their permits and relevant licenses before July 31 to prevent incurring additional burden, with those looking to get mor information directed to visit the nearest LTO office or the agency’s social media pages.

The three-month extension of validity for expiring permits and licenses was implemented last April.

During which, the LTO explained that the measure seeks to ease the burden on motorists amid the rise in fuel prices and cost of basic commodities, as well as  give them time to comply without additional economic strain due to the national energy emergency.
