Eala enters quarterfinals in Berlin tournament after winning against Rybakina

It has been an upset courtesy of the Filipina tennis star.

On Friday, June 19 (Manila time), Filipina player Alex Eala returned to the Grass Court Championships Berlin in Germany for the Round of 16 of the WTA 500 tournament.

The current world no. 35 faced off with world no. 2, Elena Rybakina, for a chance to enter the quarterfinals. It also marks their reunion on the court following the Italian Open in Rome in May, where the Kazakh netter emerged victorious.

The first set was an intense one, with Rybakina commanding a lead that reached as far as 4-1, before the Pinay tennis star slowly gained ground and eventually closed that set on top.

In the succeeding set, Alex was able to keep her momentum even with the strong opposition from the Elena, pushing the game to 5-3  lead, only for the Birmingham Open champion to close the match with an upset win.

Alex secured her win in the said round, closing it 7-5, 6-4, to make it to the quarterfinals round, where she will meet another top 10 player in Elina Svitolina of Ukraine and play on Friday evening (Manila time).
