On Monday, July 20 (Manila time), the grand final of the FIFA World Cup 2026 happened at the New York New Jersey Stadium in the United States.
The venue was packed as spectators eagerly awaited the result of the match-up between Spain and Argentina. Eventually, the title would go to the former, which clinched their sophomore title after winning their first back in 2010.
However, apart from the game, another highlight of the match is the landmark halftime show, which is a first in the World Cup’s history.
The said 11-minute show was curated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin and produced by Global Citizen.
BTS performed a revised version of their 2020 hit single Dynamite, where the band changed some lyrics to fit the occasion.
Meanwhile, Madonna delivered a party by performing Music, with The Muppets (featuring Gustavo Dudamel.
Justin Bieber sang Everything Hallelujah, while Coldplay played We Dance alongside the PS22 Chorus.
Shakira, for her part, partnered with Burna Boy for Dai Dai, which is the offiicial themesong of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to FIFA, in its press statement, the Halftime Show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative aiming to raise USD 100 million to expand access to quality education and football opportunities for children, as well as social projects worldwide.
It reported that USD60 million was already raised from tickets, with USD1 of each being allocated to the fund. FIFA disclosed that the 39-day World Cup had over 6 million spectators.
Furthermore, Shakira’s royalties from Dai Dai are being donated to the Education Fund.
