FAMAS Broadcast Awards announces winners of inaugural edition

It recognized content and personalities across television, radio, and new media.

Last Monday, July 20, the first-ever FAMAS (Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Sciences) Broadcast Awards was held at the Fiesta Pavillion at the Manila Hotel in the City of Manila.

During the night, the organization named the winners of its exhaustive categories that covered television, radio, streaming, and podcasts.

Coco Martin emerged as one of the evening’s biggest winners, earning awards for Best Series (Long/Short form), Besg Screenplay for Series/Anthology, Best Director for Series and Anthology for FPJ’s Batang Quiapo.

Director Joel Lamangan also won Best Supporting Performer for Series and Anthology for the said series, which concluded its three-year-run last March.

GMA also performed strongly in the reality-based formats with programs like Born To Be Wild, Family Feud Philippines, Fast Talk With Boy Abunda, and Biyahe Ni Drew all winning in their respective categories.

  • Best Supporting Performer for Series and Anthology – Joel Lamangan (FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, ABS-CBN)
  • Best Performer for Series and Anthology – Kelvin Miranda (Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre, GMA)
  • Best Comedy Show (Long/Short Form) – CongTV
  • Best Educational ShowBorn to Be Wild (GMA)
  • Best Show for Game, Reality, and CompetitionFamily Feud (GMA)

FAMAS also gave out special awards such as Special Citation for Excellence in Children’s Art Education for Sining Bulilit, the FAMAS Breakthrough Award Lincoln Cortez Velasquez (CongTV), and the Rosa Rosal Lifetime Achievement Award for radio actress Tina Loy.
