‘End of an era’: Sandra Aguinaldo leaves ‘I Witness’

The veteran news reporter and documentarist bowed out of the program after her latest feature.

The veteran news reporter and documentarist bowed out of the program after her latest feature.

On Saturday, March 2, GMA’s long-running documentary program ‘I Witness’ aired its episode titled ‘Matagi Hunters,’ which touches upon the subject of the legal and regulated practice of bear hunting in Japan.

However, that episode’s highlight is host Sandra Aguinaldo’s sign off — which was also her last for the show.

Rather than the usual one-liner, a montage of Aguinaldo’s most-unforgettable coverages from the yesteryears for the documentary show aired.

“Maraming salamat po sa mahabang panahon na sinamahan niyo ako sa I Witness,” the journalist ended her two-decade-long journey with the multi-awarded public affairs program.

Fellow Kapuso anchor-reporter Raffy Tima posted the clip on X (formerly Twitter) and described it as an “end of an era.”

Aguinaldo originally joined ‘I Witness’ as a pinch-hitter for Vicky Morales, who took a leave from the show.

She later became one of the program’s pillars, having produced some of the award-winning features like ‘Iskul Ko No. 1’ and ‘Boy Pusit.’

‘I Witness’ is currently celebrating its 25th or silver anniversary and holds the distinction of being the Philippines’ longest-running documentary show, having debuted in 1999.

With the news of Sandra Aguinaldo’s departure, the show’s current team of presenters is now composed of Howie Severino, Kara David, Atom Araullo, Mav Gonzales, and John Consulta.
