Alex Eala ousts Elina Svitolina to make it to Berlin Open semis

On Saturday, June 20 (Manila time), Filipina tennis star Alex Eala proceeded to the quarterfinals round of the ongoing Grass Court Championships Berlin in Germany.

In the said match, the current world no. 35 stood opposite Ukranian player Elina Svitolina, who is no. 8 globally as of the current rankings.

During which, the 21-year-old was able to gain ground early on, reaching a 4-1 lead in the first set, to take control of the contest.

In the succeeding set, Eala would be able to maintain her momentum and deliver a 5-2 lead. Although, Svitolina came close of at least eclipsing the lead, but it happened a little late as the Pinay netter was able to rise above the challenge and clinch her quarterfinals win.

The final scoreboard read: 6-3, 6-4.

Up next for Alex in the tournament is a rematch with another familiar opponent in Linda Noskova, whom she last faced in the Indian Wells Open last March, in the semi-finals round. The Eala-Noskova match-up happens on Saturday evening (Manila time).

This week, the Philippine tennis star also had two rematches in earlier rounds of the Grass Court Championships, with Donna Vekic being her first opponent in thr Round of 32, which was followed by world no. 2 Elena Rybakina in the Round of 16.
