Korean pay TV music channel Mnet, owned by entertainment giant CJ ENM, has revealed via a teaser that it is set to launch the second season of its survival-reality show Girls Planet.
Building on the success of Girls Planet 999 in 2021, which gave rise to the global girl group Kep1er, the upcoming project aims to discover and debut a new generation of talented girls from around the world who embody energy, positivity, and passion for K-pop.
Tentatively titled Girls Planet 2, the program set to premiere in 2027.
Applications have already opened on Friday, May 1 (Korea time) via the global K-POP content platform Mnet Plus.
Interested applicants can apply in multiple languages including Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish.
Applicants must be born before January 1, 2013, and are welcome to apply regardless of whether they are independent trainees, agency trainees, or currently debuted artists.
In addition, all applicants must also be eligible for international travel.
Meanwhile, in addition to online applications, on-site auditions are expected to take place at KCON Japan 2026 in Chiba, which will happen from May 8 to 10.
The audition process will also be brought to the United States, including KCON LA 2026 in downtown Los Angeles this August. Further details will be announced at a later date.
As part of CJ ENM’s Music Creative eco-System (MCS)–which encompasses IP planning, platforms and artist management–Girls Planet 2 is hailed as one of the company’s key initiatives driving the global expansion of K-pop.
The latest global group to emerge from its MCS is ALPHA DRIVE ONE, formed through Mnet’s global K-POP debut project Boys II Planet, which aired from July to September 2025.
The boy band was backed by over 26 million votes from fans across 223 regions and countries.
In January 2026, the group released their debut album Euphoria, led by a title track Freak Alarm. It sold over 1.44 million copies— the second-highest-selling debut album in K-pop history.
