Morissette returns to theater through ‘The Notebook: The Musical’

“Hi, secret’s finally out.”

That is how singer Morissette opened her social media post as she announced her return to doing theater.

She wrote, “the theater calls me back again, after my last musical about a decade ago…” as she expressed her excitement to portray (Middle) Allie for the international premiere of The Notebook: The Musical in Manila.

Joining forces with Theatre Group Asia for this play, the Asia’s Phoenix noted that the character “is a story I know all too well,” yet, she noted, it will take much preparation to get back into the discipline of “being up on a stage very different from what I am used to.”

“[B]ut I think, there couldn’t be a more perfect time than now to return, when my vocal health is at its peak and my heart so full,” she added.

Mori also shared that My Days quickly became her personal anthem from the moment she heard it as the musical’s main theme.

“I am so excited for this beautiful (and already emotional) journey, thank you for the shower of love sent our way!” she concluded her post.

The Notebook: The Musical is based on the 1996 novel by Nicholas Sparks, which was adapted into a film in 2004, which was topbilled by Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling.

The musical is set to open in September, serving as the opening salvo of Theatre Group Asia for the 2026-27 season.
