According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), it had a depth of just 10 kilometers, with damages amd aftershocks expected.

Based on firsthand accounts from netizens, tremors reached other provinces in Mindanao, as well as other island groups, such as Cebu in the Visayas and Catanduanes in Luzon.

  • Eastern Samar
  • Southern Leyte
  • Leyre
  • Dinagat Islands
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Davao Oriental

Based on local tsunami scenario database, it is expected to experience wave heights of more than one meter above normal tides and may be higher on enclosed bays and straits,” warned PHIVOLCS as it instructed residents in coastal areas to evacuate to higher ground and move further inland.

PHIVOLCS also told owners of boats in harbors, estuaries or shallow coaster water of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from waterfront.

Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised,” the agency added.

The earthquake comes more than a week after the Bogo City Bay fault line moved and released a Magnitude 6.9 quake earthquake in Cebu, which has caused casualties and major damages to infrastructure.
