Present in the event are executives from both sides. The ABS-CBN team is represented by Chairman Mark Lopez, President and CEO Carlo L. Katigbak, and COO for Broadcast Cory V. Vidanes. GMA Network’s Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, President and COO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr., Executive Vice President and CFO Felipe S. Yalong, and SVP for Programming, Talent Management and GMA Films President and CEO Atty. Annette Gozon-Valdes were there for the Kapuso camp.
After the landmark signing, ABS-CBN President and CEO Carlo Katigbak gave his remark. CLK recounts that when TV5 offered them the 4:30 pm slot as an alternative, he immediately called Atty. Annette Gozon to check if there is an opportunity to bring ‘Showtime’ to GMA.
After which, in less than two weeks, the they have reached an agreement to air the noontime show on GTV. Katigbak also expressed his gratitude to GMA execs for accepting ‘Showtime’ to their network and letting the show hold onto its base at noontime.
For GMA, its Chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe Gozon spoke to deliver their warm welcome to the program. During his speech, Gozon proclaimed that “TV war is officially over,” pertaining to what media practitioners and observers have referred to as “network wars” since the mid-2000s.
Gozon also hinted that there are more collaborations between GMA and ABS-CBN in the pipeline, saying “sa darating na panahon, mayroon pang collaboration between GMA and ABS-CBN that will be mutually beneficial and rewarding for the both of us.”
The ‘It’s Showtime’ family, led by Anne Curtis, Ogie Alcasid, Jhong Hilario, and Kim Chiu, also gave their messages of thanks to the executives of both networks. Vice Ganda also delivered her appreciation, even calling the deal as a reminder of the Filipino’s ‘bayanihan’ spirit.
The program ended with a friendly photo op and clinking of glasses between the hosts and the executives. Kapamilya host Robi Domingo and Kapuso presenter Iya Villania, both former Myx VJs, served as the hosts of the ceremony.
The contract sigining event today is the latest in the streak of collaborations and partnerships between ABS-CBN and GMA Network. Last year, the Kapuso network acquired films from the Star Cinema library to air on its free-to-air TV stations. In January, the went further with the historic co-production between both networks and Viu for ‘Unbreak My Heart,’ which is still airing on GMA channels as of publication.
Kapuso shows were also welcomed to the iWantTFC platform of ABS-CBN in May, with titles like ‘Maria Clara at Ibarra,’ ‘Abot-Kamay na Pangarap,’ and ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ being added to the streaming platform. Livestream of international GMA channels were also activated in select regions around the world.
‘It’s Showtime’ on GTV also marks the culmination (at least for now) of the major noontime shake-up since April of this year. The said rigodon began with the end of ‘Tropang LOL’ in April, followed by the battle within ‘Eat Bulaga’ and the eventual transfer of TVJ and original Dabarkads to TV5. A move that led to the end of ‘It’s Showtime’ on TV5 on Friday, June 30, 2023.
