The hit Kapamilya thriller series is extending its run until the Holy Week.
Last Tuesday, March 10, ABS-CBN announced the new weekday evening programming block effective March 16, especially with its flagship series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, who had a successful three-year run, and the action drama Roja both set to air their back-to-back conclusions on Friday night (March 13).
According to the Kapamilya network, starting Monday, its Primetime Bida slate after the evening newscast TV Patrol will be opened by the TV run of Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino’s The Alibi: Ang Buong Katotohanan at 8:00 pm.
That show will then be followed by the hit Kapamilya murder-mystery and thriller drama What Lies Beneatth at 8:45 pm and a pair of Asian dramas in Love Scout and Forbidden Flower at 9:30 pm and 10:15 pm, respectively.
These programming moves come after the Coco Martin’s Sigabo, where he will reunite on screen with real-life partner Julia Montes, was postponed to a later date.
In light of these developments, What Lies Beneath writer Arah Badayos shared on her account on X (formerly Twitter) changes in the broadcast of the show.
According to her, the program, which was supposed to end Friday, March 20, will have its finale pushed back by another two weeks, now scheduled for Holy Wednesday, April 1.
“Due to recent developments, #WhatLiesBeneath final 8 episodes will be extended on broadcast. Netflix episodes will remain at 110 eps (our original cut). For a fuller experience, please watch us on Netflix (🙏). Kung gusto nyo pa namnamin ang experience, watch on ALLTV, A2Z,” her tweet read.
Badayos added, “So what this means: Mauuna matapos ang WLB sa Netflix (2 weeks ahead, tapos na next week). At iba ang cut/version ng last weeks sa broadcast TV.”
What Lies Beneath has been a show that has always been at the cusp of last-minute programming movements.
When it made its premiere last October, the series took over the second slot, which at that point in time, was originally supposed to be occupied by Roja.
However, production delays due to weather disturbances forced the action series to be delayed by a month—with it eventually taking the 8:45 pm timeslot in November 2025.
Thus, in under two weeks, promotions were made for What Lies Beneath and despite that short period, the show made impact on Netflix, where it streamed in advance—only the sixth Kapamilya series in history to do so—after consistently ranking in the Top 10 TV shows in the Philippines.
The series, which stars Kaila Estrada, Janella Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Charlie Dizon, Jake Cuenca, JM De Guzman, Jameson Blake, Yves Flores, and Race Matias, among others, will conclude its run on Netflix next Tuesday, March 17.
The story follows the intertwined lives of four women who were bestfriends at one point in their lives: Alice (Janella Salvador / teen: Eliza Borromeo), Mel (Sue Ramirez / teen: Reich Alim), Erica (Kaila Estrada / teen: Krystal Mejes), and Beth (Charlie Dizon / teen: Allyson McBride).
Their friendship, known as MABEL, would later be marred by a traumatic incident after being witnesses to the brutal murder of their bestfriend Louisa (Mutya Orquia), but bowed to pressure from policemen and acused Edong (Renshi De Guzman/Jake Cuenca) of the crime, which he insisted to have not commited.
14 years later, their paths would once again cross as Edong vows to get his revenge for what happened to him.
