After the right-of-way issues have been addressed by the national and local government units.
On Tuesday, August 12, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Department of Transportation (DOTr) Sec. Vince Dizon visited the site for the construction of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) at Old Antipolo Street in Tondo.
The said area had multiple right-of-way problems, especially with the original alignment would have caused the demolition of 50 structures to build the railway connection between the crucial Solis and Blumentritt stations in the NSCR.
“Sinabi ng Pangulo na kailangan intindihin natin ‘yung kapakanan ng residente rito sa lugar, kaya binago natin ‘yung design para kahit habang nagsisimula na ang construction, hindi na natin sila kailangan paalisin at hindi rin makaabala,” said Secretary Dizon.
With the new alignment, these structures have been spared from destruction.
Meanwhile, Moreno expressed, “On behalf of the people of Manila, we are grateful to the President na maimplement na ang project at natutuwa kami na may bagong DOTr Secretary na mabilis ding kumilos kaya lahat ng proyekto na makabubuti sa ating mga kababayan, the City Government will support it 101 percent.”
The Manila local government unit (LGU) and DOTr said that they will continue to collaborate to ensure that the NSCR stations, which will link the North Commuter and South Commuter lines, are built and utilized by the public.
The NSCR will run from New Clark City in Tarlac to Calamba, Laguna. The first phase of the project from Valenzuela to Malolos is projected to open in 2027.
