DILG social media post receives backlash; Remulla responds to criticisms

It was perceived to be inappropriate by many users online.

Through its Facebook page on Tuesday, July 22, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) kept the public updated about the latest updates regarding class and government work suspensions.

While the agency did that, it attempted to convey the message by injecting humor into its posts that were done on behalf of Sec. Jonvic Remulla, who was known to be issuing advisories in the said manner when he was still the Governor of Cavite from 2016 to 2024.

The controversial notice that received the most backlash read: “Mga Abangers, sarap ng bogchi ko. Sa kabusugan ay naka idlip nang sandali. Oh eto na inaabangan ninyo.”

Immediately, netizens criticized the DILG for the post, sharing that it should have been delivered professionally amidst the weather disturbance and ensuing floods and hazards.

Amongst those that voiced their opinion about the matter were celebrities Jake Ejercito and Jessy Mendiola-Manzano.

Ejercito said, “There’s a time and place for trying to be funny— this isn’t one of them.”

Meanwhile, Mendiola-Manzano rhetorically asked: “Is this supposed to be funny?“, with a broken-hearted emoji sign at the end.

Following that, the DILG secretary responded on Wednesday, July 23 via a statement that was once again done in the same manner.

A little humor never hurt anyone.”

In related news, Malacañang has suspended classes at all levels and government work in Metro Manila and at least 29 other provinces for Thursday, July 24, 2025 due to inclement weather.
