Myx expands YouTube presence with new livestream service

As part of its continued evolution amid the changing times.

Last Monday, May 25, ABS-CBN Global’s music and youth-oriented channel Myx launched a dedicated livestream on its page on streaming platform YouTube.

Simply called Myx Global Live, the stream, which only lasted six hours in recent days, features a slate of select original programming of the cable channel such as reality and talk shows, as well as a handful of music videos produced by sister company ABS-CBN Music.

Among the titles the streamed on the said web-based channel are the likes of Myx Now, Discovering Routes, and BINI and BGYO USAdventures.

At present, information remains scarce on whether the service would be expanded to more hours or would there be any more shows that will be added.

However, in previous press conference in 2024, ABS-CBN Global’s Managing Director for Asia-Pacific Maribel Hernaez noted the major changes for the channel in recent years, which originally launched in 2000.

The first thing that really changed was how we deliver our content. It became digital first, dati nauuna ang TV o cable,” noted Hernaez. “The second major change, we carry the MYX Global (name) right now because we believe that the world is our stage already.”

She also said that the channel is also sticking to its “original DNA” as a music channel. “We try to keep it, mayroon pa ring nostalgia. Nakakatuwa ang generation ngayon na even if the young ones are creating their own brand, own type of music — marami pa rin sa kanila ang nakaka-appreciate ng icons, ng legacy ng artists who came earlier.”

Myx was originally launched in November 2000 as a block on the defunct free-to-air channel Studio 23, replacing MTV Philippines.

Over a year later, on February 14, 2002, the block merged with its sister cable music channel VID-OK to form its next iteration as full-fledged 24/7 music channel.

It revolutionized music video programming in local television by embedding the song’s lyrics in the lower-thirds, quickly becoming its main differentiating feature from its competitors.

In 2007, Myx launched its global version, which was eventually known as MyxTV, in the United States.

Years after the demise of Studio 23, where it retained a block until 2014, Myx became an exclusive add-on to ABS-CBN TVplus in 2018.

Although, the twin impact of the ABS-CBN franchise denial and the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 eventually led to channel’s scaled down operations and the graduation of most of the channel’s VJs, including Robi Domingo and Ai dela Cruz.

In 2021, the Philippine-based Myx merged with MyxTV, to create Myx Global with programming becoming much diverse with the addition of lifestyle shows and movie blocks.

To this day, Myx is still available on local providers like Sky Cable and Cignal TV, on top of its presence on digital platforms.
