This is due to an international summit that will be hosted by the country.

On Thursday, October 10, the Office of the President issued Memorandum Circular No. 66, which suspends the classes and work in government offices on Monday, October 14, and Tuesday, October 15, 2024 in the cities of Manila and Pasay.

This is in view of the “numerous participants expected to travel and to and within the cities of Manila and Pasay on 14 and 15 October 2024 for the opening of the APMCDRR.”

APMCDRR stands for the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, which will be held from October 14 to 18 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

The event is hosted by the Philippines, in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The suspension memorandum, howeber, does not cover those who work in agencies “whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services,” which shall continue their services.

Work in private firms is left to the discretion of their respective heads, the memo also stated.
