In the latest global singles index of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), which was published on Monday (April 20, Manila time), Filipina netter Alex Eala saw an improvement in her standing.

After dipping to 45th place from her career-best 29th place finish after the 2026 Miami Open, which happened as the points she collected during the tournament’s 2025 season expired, the 20-year-old was able to take the 44th spot.

With a record of 15 wins and 10 losses in the season, Eala is still has a few months to earn her points back and even attempt to surpass the previous record that she has set—which is the highest for any Filipina tennis player in history.

Meanwhile, the refreshed rankings come ahead of her scheduled participation in the 2026 Mutua Madrid Open in Spain, which is due to start on Tuesday, April 21.

In which, Eala is expected to participate in the qualifying round of the WTA 1000 tournament, with Eala possibly facing world number 21 Elise Mertens of Belgium, should she emerge victorious in the said match.

Also in the pipeline for her is the Catalonia Open, also in Spain, with her participation depending on her performance in Madrid as that is scheduled to begin on April 27.

The action continues for her at the Rome Open, another WTA 1000, in Italy, which will then begin on May 5. Similar to her situation in Catalonia, her listing in the Parma Ladies Open  which will happen from May 11 to 16, will also depend on how she will fare in Rome.

The athlete will then move to France for the French Open, which is set to start on May 18 and will run until June 7.

The clay court calendar of the tennis champ started pretty slow for her, as she made early exits in both the Ladies Linz Open in Austria and Stuttgart.
