Twitter.com now redirects to X.com

Almost a year into the social networking platform’s rebranding exercise.

Almost a year into the social networking platform’s rebranding exercise.

Since the past week, social media giant X, formerly known as Twitter, has been redirecting visitors and users alike to its new Uniform Resource Locator (URL).

When one searches for the “twitter.com” domain, they will now be sent over to “x.com,” which was in turn an address that used to redirect users to the former URL since the platform’s reband from Twitter to X last year until recently.

Upon opening “x.com,” a pop-up message displays with the message: “We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.”

The transition to the new URL marks the completion of its rebrand from Twitter to X, which was a result of the platform’s acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk from founder Jack Dorsey in 2022.

Musk’s vision for the platform at the start of his tenure was to make it an “everything app,” similar to the functionalities of WeChat in China.

WeChat blends in social networking with video-sharing, mobile wallet, and e-commerce, among others, into a single application.

In July 2023, Elon Musk decided to drop the Twitter brand in favor of X, which had been reflected in all other assets within the social networking sites with the exception of the URL, until the switcheroo happened last week.
