Local fastfood chain Jollibee removes lumpiang shanghai from menu

The news took its fans by surprise.

In a viral statement last week, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) said that it has removed lumpiang shanghai from meals in its menu.

“We’re happy that people have enjoyed eating our Shanghai as much as we’ve enjoyed serving it to our loyal Jollibee customers, and we’d like to extend our sincerest appreciation for all the support,” Jollibee said.

They then confirmed thde information, saying “Unfortunately, our Shanghai is no longer available in our stores.”

They then encouraged their customers to try out their other food items, such as a “Super Meal” that includes staples like the Pinoy-style spaghetti or their burger steak meals.

Despite that, they did not make any direct mention with regards to the exact reason of lumpiang shanghai from the Jollibee menu.

In response, Chowking, another Jollibee-owned fastfood chain, posted on social media to encourage those who would like to have lumpia to shift over to them instead.

Established in 1978, Jollibee is the largest Filipino-owned fastfood chain in the world with over 1,500 stores. Aside from its home market in the Philippines, the chain has also established branches in the United States, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, among others.

Meanwhile, lumpiang shanghai is a known staple food in Filipino celebrations, such as birthday parties, wedding receptions, to name a few. In 2022, Taste Atlas even ranked it as the second best street food in the world.
