Ending her four-year tenure in the country’s longest-running newscast.
On Friday night, August 29, long-time ABS-CBN news reporter and anchor of ANC’s flagship newscast ‘The World Tonight,’ Pia Gutierrez, made her last appearance on the show.
The edition was carried out as normal, but Gutierrez received a different ‘Final Word’ from none other than her partner in the program, Tony Velasquez, on social media.
In the Instagram story, Kakan Turing shared his message dedicated to his co-presenter of four years in ‘TWT’.
It read, “Thank you partner, [Pia Gutierrez], for the four years you spent with me on the anchor desk of The World Tonight. Godspeed and best of luck in your new endeavor,” with Velasquez including their photos from back in October 2021 and present day.
Meanwhile, in a separate post, Pia’s fellow reporters, Jeff Canoy, Zen Hernandez, Adrian Ayalin, and Atom Araullo joined her in an intimate despedida (send-off party).
Even before her exit from the Kapamilya newscast was confirmed, the ABS-CBN News Channel’s press statement about its new live stream on iWant already served as a hint when it notably left Pia’s name out of the list of anchors in the station’s programming.
Pia Gutierrez started her career as a reporter for ABS-CBN’s regional station in Baguio in 2006. She eventually joined the main ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs team based in Quezon City in 2010.
Since then, she has been assigned reportorial duties, which include her being part of the Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) under the term of ex-President Rodrigo Duterte and the incumbent, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Alongside that, she was also frequently seen on the hourly news bulletins of the network, such as ‘News Patrol’ from 2013 to 2022.
