GMA’s flagship late-night newscast ‘Saksi’ celebrates 30th anniversary

It is a witness to a lot of the biggest stories that shaped the history of the country and the world.

On Thursday, October 2, GMA’s longest-running newscast ‘Saksi’ celebrated its 30th anniversary with a special report looking back on the program’s humble beginnings to its current look.

In the said nine-minute-long report that aired during that edition, the Kapuso news program aired snippets of its earlier years, including the inaugural broadcast anchored by the late Mike Enriquez.

Also featured and interviewed there were his fellow anchors in his nine years of being at helm of the newscast from 1995 to 2004: Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales, who both reminisced their time in the show and their memories with the renowned broadcaster.

Aside from them, Arnold Clavio and incumbent anchor Pia Arcangel also narrated their own recollections while presenting ‘Saksi.’

Prior to the special report, the opening billboard (OBB) of the newscast was also aptly updated to mark the achievement, with the logo/title card also slightly reworked to include the number “30” on the red circle with the images from the past three decades in the background.

‘Saksi’ was launched in 1995 as a 15-minute late afternoon newscast, which set itself apart from competition by offering a concise rundown of the biggest headlines of the day.

Eventually, it expanded its airtime and was later moved to the late-night slot by the year 2002, where it has remained since.

At present, it is one of the two programs produced by GMA Integrated News for the said block, with ‘State of the Nation’ on sister channel GTV being the other.
