Magnitude 4.8 quake rocks Zambales Thursday afternoon
PHIVOLCS reports that a Magnitude 4.8 earthquake rocked the town of Palauig, Zambales at 3:16 pm on Thursday. The semology bureau added that no damages and aftershocks are expected because of the said quake. But tremors were felt as far as nearby provinces and regions of Bulacan and Metro Manila.
Metro Manila records hottest July heat index in 50 years
PAGASA reported on Thursday that it has recorded the highest heat index for the month of July in 50 years. According to the local weather bureau, yesterday’s (July 5, 2023) heat index in the Manila Port Area reached 37°C. It broke the previous record of 36.5°C on July 2, 1973. PAGASA, earlier this week, proclaimed the start of the El Niño season in the Philippines.
The high heat index comes amidst the record high average world temperature that was compiled by the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction. According to the said agency, the global temperature reached the high of 17.18°C this week, which is above the 16.92°C record in August 2016.
Meta launches its answer to Twitter, ‘Threads’
Meta, through its Instagram platform, launched its direct answer to Twitter. Named ‘Threads,’ it wient online this Thursday, July 6 in over 100 countries.
‘Threads’ is a standalone app. Although, users can easily link their existing Instagram accounts to the app. Additional perk would be that they will be able to keep their usernames and even their Circles. Hence, there will no longer be a need for users to build their base again on the new platform.

MTRCB reviews ‘Barbie’ film over alleged depiction of China’s Nine-dash line
On Tuesday, the MTRCB said that it has received a copy of and has reviewed the ‘Barbie’ film. The agency added that they are still deliberating on the film’s permit to exhibit in the country. This comes as last Monday, ‘Barbie’ was banned in Vietnam over the alleged depiction of China’s Nine-dash line.
On Thursday, Radyo Pilipinas reported that the MTRCB and representatives from Warner Bros. Pictures have already talked about the matter. They added the local WBP reps have sought the global studio’s heads overseas to address the concerns raised by politicians in the country. Its exhibition status in the country remains unknown at the moment.

Korina Sanchez-Roxas, ABS-CBN ink co-production deal for ‘Rated Korina’
ABS-CBN and TV host Korina Sanchez-Roxas formally signed a contract on Wednesday for the co-production of the lifestyle magazine show ‘Rated Korina.’ With this deal, Korina and the show formally rejoins the Kapamilya network, after almost three years of partnership with Brightlight Productions to bring the show to air.
Prior to the contract signing, this co-production of the program had been unveiled on the June 7th episode of the show, where the ABS-CBN logo appeared in the opening bllboard of the show. ABS-CBN executives were also then listed as part of the credits roll by the end of that episode.

ANC revamps weekday programming line-up
ANC, the 24/7 English news channel of ABS-CBN, made a revamp with regards to their weekday programming line-up, effective Monday, July 3. Some of the casualties of the sweeping changes were the editions of ‘Rundown,’ with its 7:00 am show now reduced to 30 minutes, while the 10:00 am, 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm bulltins canceled and replaced by the shorter three-minuter-ish ‘ANC Headlines’. New business programs ‘Business Roadshow’ and ‘Business Outlook’ were then launched on the same day.

Veteran showbiz reporter Mario Dumaual writes 30
On July 5, at 8:01 am, veteran entertainment journalist Mario Dumaual passed away, his family confirmed in their statement. According to them, Dumaual died due to septic shock. The ‘Star Patroller’ had been in the hospital for a month after suffering from heart attack. He was already in his recovery stage when he said to have gotten a fungal infection.

According to her sisters Nancy and Carol, Coco had been in coma for days, after attempting suicide at their home. They also revealed that Coco has been battling depression for years already.
