TV5’s Primetime Todo starting November 23

TV5’s primetime is starting anew this coming Monday.

On November 23, a new set of shows are coming to the airwaves on channel 5. The evening block will also be rechristened as “Primetime Todo”. Itwill house a mix of game shows, newscasts, sporting coverage and Filipinos’ most-loved genre: drama.

It’s been ages since the Kapatid network’s previous attempt at making a teleserye. Arguably, it could be the short-lived 2016 Viva-produced drama “Bakit Manipis ang Ulap?” starring Claudine Barreto, among others. Since then, TV5 started relying heavily towards foreign imports like “Supernatural”, “The Flash”, “Arrow”, and “The Walking Dead”.

But on Monday, things will begin to change. The IdeaFirst’s ‘Christmaserye’ titled “Paano ang Pasko?” will be a Christmas-themed series starring an ensemble cast led by Julia Clarete, Beauty Gonzales, and Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan. It will air weeknights at 9:00p.m.

Things are not going to stop there as the 9:30p.m. slot will bring more stories each weekday evening.

Ate ng Ate Ko

“Ate ng Ate Ko” starring Kris Bernal, Isabella De Leon, Jake Cuenca, and Joem Bascon are taking the Monday night slot. The story tells about two orphaned sisters; where Riki (Bernal) was tasked to be the guardian of her sister Yumi (De Leon). But on the eve of her engagement with her boyfriend (Cuenca), Riki figured herself in an accident. This is where the role reversal happens as Riki had an dissociative disorder that made her act like a nine-year-old child and Yumi is now required to take on the role as the older sibling.

Stay In Love

Meanwhile, every Tuesday, Maris Racal, Marc David, and Kokoy de Santos will headline the romantic-comedy drama “Stay In Love”, produced by Cornerstone Studios. Joining them will be the likes of Pooh, Elsa Droga, and Ruffa Gutierrez. This series is directed by Rod Marmol.

Carpool

APT and Cignal Entertainment will also launch a dark thriller drama on Thursday, October 26 titled “Carpool”. A fitting title for a series that revolves around a group of college students who joined together inside a ride-sharing vehicle. It will feature Kenneth Medrano, Sarah Carlos, and Alex Diaz, among others.

Bella Bandida

Sari Sari/Viva will also have their own slate of shows for this timebelt. Wednesday nights will be packed with action and suspense as Ryza Cenon’s “Bella Bandida” kicks off. Based on the story by Philippine National Artist Francisco Coching, Bella Suarez (Cenon) will be the main heroine in the series. Set in the fictional town of Santiago, Suarez will fight for the betterment of her fellow townsfolk.

The fantasy-action series is a first to many things. For one, it would be Ryza Cenon’s first drama after The General’s Daughter, her first leading role in a series, and first series on the Kapatid network. Apart from that, it will also serve as the first Viva drama to materialize on TV5 (outside Sari-Sari Originals) after four years.

Kagat ng Dilim

Fridays will be full of horror as Viva’s horror anthology “Kagat ng Dilim” returns to television. First aired on IBC more than 20 years ago, KND is given a new lease in life on TV5 with new tales. Directors Lawrence Fajardo, Rae Red, Paul Basinillo, and Richard Somes will all be on board to direct the anthology series. For the first few episodes (based on the trailer released), Nathalie Hart, Ella Cruz, and Cristine Reyes, to name a few, will be doing episodes for Kagat ng Dilim.

What happens to current TV5 primetime programming?

As of press time, TV5 is yet to release the new program grid starting Monday. However, it is already implied by the latest social media teasers for “Betty sa NY” and “Tierra de Reyes” that the two series will now be shown in the afternoons (replacing their respective replay telecasts).

Meanwhile, the status of the Daebak block consisting of “Reply 1988” and “Wok of Love” is still unknown as of the moment. But if both American telenovelas were to be transferred in the afternoons, both K-dramas can move down beginning at 10:30 to 11:30 p.m.
