For the first time in Philippine gymnastics.
At the 13th Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Senior Asian Championships in Zunyi, China on Saturday, June 20, brothers Carlos Yulo and Karl Eldrew Yulo were able to secure back-to-back medals.
The elder sibling, who is none other than the country’s lone double Olympic gold medalist to date, clinched his latest gold medal after securing 14.700 in the floor exercise finals.
Meanwhile, the younger brother was able to bag bronze after getting a score of 14.300 for his routine.
In the said event, Japanese gymnast Shoma Tsukiyama won the silver medal with his score of 14.600.
In a post on his Instagram account, Carlos shared his thoughts after the competition.
“Proud to represent the Philippines and grateful for everyone who continues to support this journey. Thank you to my coaches, family, and everyone who believed in me through every high and low,” he wrote, adding that the work continues.
In the said image carousel, Karl was also seen standing alongside Carlos while holding his own medal, as well as the Olympian’s long-time girlfriend Chloe San Jose.
Meanwhile, in the senior men’s horizontal bar final, both Eldrew and Carlos Yulo fell short of repeating their podium finish, as the former finished fourth place with 13.833 points, while the latter ended kn fifth place with 13.500 points.
Tang Chia-Hung of Taipei won the gold with 15.500 points, followed by Zhang Boheng of China, who settled for silver with 15.000 points, and Fusuke Maeda of Japan winning bronze for his performance that scored 14.300 points.
