A battle between champions of the two recent grass season tournaments.
On Wednesday, June 17, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala returned to the court for her first appearance at the Grass Court Championships Berlin in Germany.
The said competition marks her return after losing in the recent HSBC Queen’s Club Championships in London, United Kingdom, which was ultimately won by Croatian player Donna Vekic.
And, in a twist of fate, Eala, who won in the Birmingham Open in UK earlier this June, faces off with Vekic in the Round of 32 of the Berlin tourney.
Notably, it will also be their third time to face each other on the court, as they previously played with each other at the ASB Classic in New Zealand in January and the Kooyong Classic exhibition in Melbourne, where the Filipina athlete both won.
In the first set, Eala and Vekic showcased their might and made the match a much intense sight for the spectators, with the rising Asian tennis star eventually getting the win.
The second set was no less thrilling, as Donna aimed to push the game to a decider, only to be met with a strong pushback from Alex, who ended the competition in her favor, 7-5, 6-4, to proceed to the next round of the competition.
Meanwhile, prior to the match, fire alarm at the hotel where she is currently staying at has caused Alex, as well as fellow players Coco Gauff and Eva Lys, to wake up in the middle of the night.
However, they turned the moment into a lighthearted one as Coco and Alex posed in front of a fire truck, which Eva posted on her social media account.
