Sumitomo apologizes over MRT-3 technical issue; line implements free rides for all passengers

On Wednesday, June 17, passengers moving to catch trains from Taft Avenue to Boni Avenue of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) for their early morning peak-time commute were dismayed by the implementation of a limited service of the said train line.

This, as it had to implement provisional service from North Avenue to Shaw Boulevard (and vice versa) from 5:50 am due to a technical issue between Buendia and Guadalupe stations.

“Rest assured that we are enforcing crowd management to ensure the safety of our passengers,” told in their statement as they also expressed apologies for the inconvenience the fault had caused.

In line with that, Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez issued a show-cause order to maintenance provider Sumitomo Corporation and its technical partner TES Philippines, Inc., who immediately responded with a letter of apology.

According to the firms, they are already investigating the incident to ensure the measures that need to be taken to prevent the incident from recurring.

Due to the fault, Sumitomo will shoulder the  free rides for all passengers on June 17, which was implemented starting 12:00 noon.

“Nauunawaan namin ang kahalagahan ng ligtas, maayos at maaasahang transportasyon sa inyong pang-araw-araw na biyahe,” the MRT-3 statement read.

It continued, “Tinitiyak namin na isinasagawa ang lahat ng kinakailangang hakbang upang maiwasan ang kahalintulad na insidente at higit pang mapabuti ang kalidad ng aming serbisyo.
