“What happens when one night outside of your normal routine cracks open everything you thought was solid?”
That is the intriguing plot line of the upcoming Netflix series entitled The Facade of Love that was announced on Thursday, April 16.
The series will be top-billed by one of South Korea’s top leading men, Lee Dong-wook, who join forces with Jeon So-nee, Jung Yu-mi and Lee Jong-won in the drama that will be directed by Mo Wan-il—who had previously worked The World of the Married and The Frog—and written by Ha Su-jin, who has done The Matchmakers, Sell Your Haunted House.
In the series, Lee Dong-wook will play Ji-hun, a character “pulled between what he feels and what he thinks is right.”
With his ability to seamlessly shift across genres in titles like Goblin, Hell Is Other People and Tale of the Nine Tailed, the production is confident that he woulf be able to bring his “profound emotional depth” to the role.
Jeon So-nee, meanwhile, will play Hu-kyung, the woman who unexpectedly becomes the “axis of Ji-hun’s emotional upheaval.” Jung Yu-mi will then do Sun-hee, Ji-hun’s wife, with Lee Jong-won portraying Dae-hee, Sun-hee’s younger brother who becomes “entangled with Hu-kyung in ways no one expects.”
According to the platform, The Facade of Love begins when Ji-hun and Hu-kyung, two strangers far from home, spend an unforgettable night together in an unfamiliar place.
“Both know that once they return to Korea, life is supposed to go back to normal. But the connection they share follows them home and small cracks begin to appear, slowly upending the lives of four people,” it added.
“As their relationships knot together, The Facade of Love peels back what lies beneath the polished surfaces of their lives: desire, guilt, hurt and the gap between the stories we tell ourselves and the truths we can’t escape,” further teased the company.
The Facade of Love is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix.
