They fell short of making it to the finals round.
On Friday evening, February 6 (Manila time), Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala competed in the semifinals event of the doubles category at the 2026 Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open together with her Indonesian partner Janice Tjen.
The duo faced formidable competition in Tereza Mihalikova and Olivia Nicholls, who are the fourth seeds in the ongoing competition.
Despite the odds, the Southeast Asians fought hard for the chance of making it to the finals. The first set saw them go toe-to-toe with their Slovakian and British rivals, although Eala and Tjen lost grip in the second set as their opponents pulled away and scored the win.
The finals scores read 4-6, 2-6, in favor of the other tandem. This also meant the end of the journey in Abu Dhabi of the Philippine tennis star, who had previously bowed out of the singles event on Thursday evening.
While she is leaving the United Arab Emirates for now, Alex is scheduled to participate in the Qatar Open in Doha, which will begin this Sunday, February 8.
Following that, she will be heading back to UAE for the Dubai Open, which is then slated to start on February 15.
