Many were left amused by his version of the trending song.
In an episode of variety show ASAP, singer Darren Espanto hopped on in the trend after he performed his version of Kid Cudi’s 2008 single Maui Wowie, which has been used in countless video clips on social media since September.
During that episode, the 24-year-old Kapamilya star made a nod to the pose in the challenge, which involved hanging on a bar with just one hand.
But it was not that that impacted the viewers, as in his version, Espanto made his mark on the song by doing it his way.
This performance has since spawned into a meme, with multiple celebrities led by Anne Curtis also joining in the fun.
In fact, Anne even brought Darren with her in the video that she uploaded on her own account on TikTok, where it has garnered over 4.8 million views to date.
Ever a sport, Darren also uploaded on his Instagram account a compilation of his memes, which includes the clip and other videos recorded by other stars like Niana Guerrero, Kyle Echarri, Jason Dy, and other social media users.
And as it seems, the trend is not gonna end yet, as YouTuber James Charles became the latest star to reference the trending meme.
In fact, netizens even embedded Darren’s audio with James’ old audition clips, which shocked the influencer as he did not expect to not be his actual singing voice.
Darren has since reposted the video, which has gained over 13.2 million views, on his personal account.
