It will be the new home of the prestigious collegiate league in the country.
Last Friday, October 24, the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP), along with its partners, broke ground on a 1.8-hectare site in Pasig City.
The said plot is where the new Home of the UAAP arena will be built, ahich will have a capacity of 8,000.
UAAP Season 88 Chairman Fr. Richard Ang, O.P. described the the groundbreaking as a turning point for the league.
“With the Home of the UAAP, we take the next bold step forward. Beyond being a sports venue, it will be a true home — a space of belonging, growth, and shared legacy. A place where champions will be nurtured,” said Fr. Ang.
The said arena will be a state-of-the-art complex where athletes can train and compete. According to Engr. Timothy Tan, Project Lead of Athletica Asia Land Corporation, shared that the design and planning of the UAAP arena have been enhanced to accommodate an even larger audience.
“We’ve successfully increased the seating capacity in the upper-ground or general admission area, raising it from nearly 7,000 to more than 8,000 seats,” Tan told.
He explained, “Safety remains a top priority. Should standing zones be added, there will be protective barriers in place, along with clear emergency discharge routes to ensure everyone’s well-being.”
The Home of the UAAP is expected to open in 2027, in time for the league’s 90th season that will be hosted by the National University.
