Recognizing the athletic excellence of Filipinos.
The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) officially sealed on Wednesday, October 15, its three-year partnership aimed at empowering the country’s national athletes and bring Filipino excellence on the global stage.
According to the commission’s press statement, the tie-up has an estimated worth of PHP60 million and will last until 2028.
The collaboration between both parties is also said to be opening a wider runway for national athletes to thrive internationally.
This, as the spotlight is turns to the upcoming Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics in the United States, where the Philippines aims to sustain and surpass its growing medal tally from recent editions such as Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024.
Through this partnership, PAL’s flagship Mabuhay Miles program will introduce an exclusive customized card for national athletes.
The special card offers a hero’s welcome on board and includes additional perks such as 20 kg of free extra baggage (or sports equipment) and waived rush and rebooking fees, which the airline says is “a gesture that underscores PAL’s dedication to recognizing and supporting Filipino sports heroes.”
PAL President Richard Nuttall noted, “When a Filipino athlete flies, the entire nation flies with them.”
Meanwhile, PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio expressed, “When you touch the heart of an athlete, they start winning. And when they start winning, they touch the hearts of 110 million Filipinos.”
