Months after their supposed five-year deal from 2023 prematurely ended.
In a report by the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), it cited a source, who revealed ongoing talks between media giants ABS-CBN and TV5.
The two networks, who were erstwhile partners, are looking to revive their tie-up starting with the comeback series of Coco Martin and Julia Montes in Sigabo, which begins airing on June 22.
According to the report, the Kapatid network is keen on getting the upcoming Kapamilya series aired on its TodoMax Primetime block, where the actor-producer’s previous programs — FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano and FPJ’s Batang Quiapo — were also broadcast from March 2021 until January 2026.
It was last January when their supposed five-year content supply agreement, inked in June 2023, prematurely ended after the widely publicized discord between both parties in December 2025, leading to ABS-CBN’s eventual exit from TV5 in favor of a licensing agreement with ALLTV.
But in another development, a follow-up report noted that the networks are working to do a different setup this time around.
Rather than simply having ABS-CBN programs on TV5, the Kapatid network is also looking to have their original productions carried by the Kapamilya Channel on pay TV.
At present, TV5 is airing two dramas on primetime, which are A Secret In Prague and My Bespren Emman, as well as a pair of reruns of their past collaborations with ABS-CBN — Nag-aapoy na Damdamin and Pira-Pirasong Paraiso.
The report went as far as saying that a possible transfer of one primetime program to the afternoon block might happen to accommodate Sigabo.
However, on the side of ABS-CBN, it currently has its own primetime slate consisting of all first-run dramas led by Blood Vs. Duty, The Alibi: Ang Buong Katotohanan, and the Asian dramas Love Your Enemy and Fireworks In My Heart.
Should the possible new deal with TV5 happen, the slots of the Asian dramas might become exclusive to ALLTV and A2Z, which were not mentioned in the said article, with the Kapatid dramas taking over these slots on the pay TV channel.
But it should also be noted that a setup involving other platforms where Kapamilya programs are airing is no longer strange territory for both ABS-CBN and TV5.
Back in July 2022, the Kapamilya and Kapatid networks, together with Brighlight Productions and Zoe Broadcasting Network (ZBNI) signed a multi-party deal that allowed for the back-to-back airing of variety shows Tropang LOL and It’s Showtime on TV5, A2Z, and the Kapamilya Channel.
That setup lasted until April 2023, when Tropang LOL took its final bow after more than two-and-a-half years on the air.
It would later be followed by another arrangement in October 2023, when TV5 occupied A2Z’s afternoon and evening blocks for the broadcast of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) — which, at that time, was dropped from channel 5 after a reformat to being an entertainment and news channel.
The PBA on A2Z deal would result to the non-broadcast of ABS-CBN’s top-rating dramas on the channel every Wednesday and Friday nights, as well as adjustments in its Sunday evening block.
But that did not last long as in February 2024, the PBA found its permanent home on RPTV channel 9, which was launched following the cessation of CNN Philippines’ broadcast.
At present, ABS-CBN and TV5 have not yet issued any comment on the matter.
For now, what is confirmed is that Sigabo will air on the Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, ABS-CBN sa ALLTV2, and A2Z on June 22.
