Following his back-to-back performances in earlier rounds that earned him two “golden buzzers.”
On Saturday, May 30 (UK time), the grand finals of the 19th season of ITV’s long-running reality-talent competition Britain’s Got Talent.
Among the contenders of the night was Filipino singer Matty Juniosa, who comes to the last stage of the contest with a clean sweep of the coveted golden buzzers from the audition and live semi-final rounds.
During which, the former Idol Philippines semifinalist was up against nine other participants, namely: Liwei Yang, Rafferty Coope, Anastasia Beaumont & Salsa, The Hawkstone Farmers Choir, Fabian Fox, Sonny Green, Saddeck Berrabah & LMA, Ted Hill, and Celestial.
For his final performance this season, the 27-year-old did his rendition of Prince’s Nothing Compares 2 U.
The singer received a standing ovation from judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, and KSI, as well as the audience with his powerful rendition.
In the end, Matty ranked fourth in the public voting, which solely determined the winner of the edition, with the title being won by The Hawkstone Farmers Choir.
Juniosa was one of the contestants in the first season of Idol Philippines in 2019, where he ended his journey after being part of the Top 12. Later on, he would form the group i-Dolls with fellow participants Lucas Garcia and Enzo Almario.
Together, they would join another program, Your Face Sounds Faniliar in 2021 before disbanding a year later.
Meanwhile, prior to the finals, Matty was named as part of the cast of the West End staging of Jesus Christ Superstar, where he will portray the character Annas.
