Alex Eala bids Japan Open 2025 goodbye on first match

It is her second early exit in a row this month.

It is her second early exit in a row this month.

On Tuesday, October 14, Filipina tennis star Alex Eala set foot on the hard court anew at the Japan Open 2025 in Osaka.

In the qualifiers match, the current World No. 54 took on Tereza Valentova of Czechia, who is ranked no. 78 in the rankings.

However, the match saw Eala fall to her opponent in just two sets, ending her journey in the WTA 250 tournament in the Round of 32, 6-1, 6-2.

The 20-year-old’s loss marked her second consecutive early exit, as she also bowed out of the Wuhan Open in China last October 4 after losing her match against Japanese rival Moyuka Uchijuma in a three-set match.

Despite of Tuesday’s results, the Pinay tennis star still has two more competitions in the coming weeks.

She is set to join the Guangzhou Open in China on October 20 and the Hong Kong Tennis Open on October 27.

Meanwhile, in the latest rankings released by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Eala improved her standing from being No. 61 to No. 54.

Aside from this being a personal best for the player, her placement is also the highest for any Filipina in history and made her the top female player in Southeast Asia at the moment.

The latest ranking came out days after she participated in three tournaments in China, specifically those in Jingshan, Suzhou, and Wuhan.
