It was a rough start for the national team.
On Friday, September 12, thebFIVB Men’s World Championship 2025 officially opened at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Right after the opening ceremony in the afternoon, the action kicked off early evening, with the home team, Alas Pilipinas, taking on the World No. 32 Tunisia for the first game of the tournament.
The Philippine team pushed to make a fight, as it continually tried to keep the Tunisians at bay. In the first set, they ended it with 13 points (to 25), then 17, before nearly pulling off a comeback in Set 3 with 23 points.
Because of this, the Alas Pilipinas has a record of 0-1 in the competition, while Tunisia gets 1-0 in Pool A, where the Filipinos’ next opponent, Egypt, also belong.
The Philippines-Egypt match will take place on Tuesday, September 16.
