Commuters were forced to find alternative modes during the limited operations.
At 8:54 am on Wednesday, June 18, Manila’s Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) implemented temporary limited operations between FPJ Avenue to Gil Puyat (for southbound) and from Vito Cruz to FPJ stations (for northbound).
This, after an electrical fault in the catenary wire located between Redemptorist-Aseana station and Baclaran station occurred that morning.
According to operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), their engineering team had to conduct a thorough assessment of their catenary facilities to resolve the issues, followed by the necessary repairs.
“These proactive measures are crucial for ensuring safety and reliability across the entire LRT-1 system. LRMC is committed to providing continuous service to our passengers,” LRMC further said in their earlier update.
Nearly 10 hours after the incident, at 5:38 pm, the operator shared that they have completed all necessary repairs and comprehensive assessments.
Hence, LRT-1 has resumed operations from Dr. Santos to FPJ Avenue (and vice-versa) for the remainder of its operational day.
The technical fault comes a day after a similar disruption happened at Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3), where a burning wire was reported between the Araneta-Cubao and Santolan-Annapolis stations on Tuesday, June 18.
The matter was resolved within an hour, allowing the resumption of service at 8:13 am.
