The veteran newsman is taking a break from his anchoring duties in the newscast.
On Friday, August 30, ABS-CBN News anchor Henry Omaga-Diaz delivered a personal update about himself.
In an interview with Alvin Elchico and Doris Bigornia on Teleradyo Serbisyo’s morning program ‘Gising Pilipinas,’ Omaga-Diaz first revealed the big news that he is leaving his anchoring duties on the station and the flagship primetime newscast ‘TV Patrol.’
According to the journalist, he is taking a break from the usual hustle and narrated that for the time being, at least, the cycle of preparing for the evening newscast will not be part of his routine upon his move to Canada.
Although, Omaga-Diaz did not close his doors for the opportunity of utilizing his journalistic skills there.
After the revelation, he still went to work for what was his final edition in ‘TV Patrol’ for the meantime.
In the program’s last body, the team produced a special tribute video for him, along with messages from his colleagues and family members.
As a ‘despidida’ or parting gift, his fellow ‘TV Patrol’ anchors Noli de Castro, Karen Davila, and Bernadette Sembrano gave their farewell messages to Henry Omaga-Diaz.
The newsroom staffers also gave him physical gifts, including ABS-CBN-colored ‘TV Patrol’ caps and a sweatshirt with his name and ‘Radyo Patrol’ callsign number.
Henry Omaga-Diaz began his illustrious career in the late ’70s, more than a decade before joining ABS-CBN and its then-flagship AM station DZMM Radyo Patrol 630, where was assigned as Radyo Patrol or RP number 14.
He then got the coveted primetime anchor post when he first anchored ‘TV Patrol’ from 2001 to 2003.
Omaga-Diaz then anchored the network’s flagship late-night newscast ‘Bandila’ with Korina Sanchez and Ces Drilon from 2006 until 2010.
In 2020, after Ted Failon bade ‘TV Patrol’ farewell, HOD was brought back to anchor the show together with Noli de Castro and Bernadette Sembrano.
