“The future of AM radio.”
That is the promise and the vision of DWAN 1206 as it made its return to the airwaves on Thursday, June 20, 2024.
In a relaunching event at its studios inside the IBC-13 headquarters in Quezon City, the radio station’s reopening was graced by notable personalities, such as Senator Aquilino ‘Kokoy’ Pimentel, Jr., Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, IBC President Jimmy Policarpio, and station manager Marc Logan.
Some of the station’s programs include ‘Bangon Bagong Pilipinas’ with Alice Noel; ‘Bawat Gising May Blessing’ of Maan Macapagal, Zandro Ochona, Justine Punsalang; ‘Legal Weapon’ with Maan Macapagal and Atty. Meliza Arnesto; and ‘The Viral Patrol’ with Marc Logan, Jazzy, and Xyryll.
Sports program ‘Hardball,’ last seen on ANC, will also make its return via DWAN with host Bill Velasco every Sunday.
Senator Francis Tolentino will also host his own program titled ‘The Chamber,’ while Department of Health Undersecretary Eric Tayag will join Justine Punsalang and Naomi Tiburcio in ‘Kapwa Ko, Sagot Ko’.
Also in DWAN’s line-up of shows are ‘Tanghali Na Lang Ang Tapat,’ ‘Dwance Groove,’ ‘Refoodlika ng Pilipinas,’ among others.
DWAN 1206
The station was originally launched back in the ’70s under the callsign DWWA of the Banahaw Broadcasting Corporation or BBC, which was owned by crony Roberto Benedicto.
After the BBC was closed down following the EDSA Revolution, its assets were transferred to other entities.
Notably, the analog TV channel 2 and 101.9 FM frequencies in Manila that it held from 1973 to 1986 were given back to ABS-CBN.
Meanwhile, DWAN was moved to the Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) — which at that time had already been sequestered by the newly-installed government of President Corazon Aquino.
The station remained on the air well into the 2000s, before it went into a three-year-long hiatus from 2004.
Then it eventually resurfaced as a station operated by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) from 2007 to 2010.
In January this year, the plan to revive the radio station after 14 years was first reported, with veteran broadcaster Marc Logan said to be leading the project.
It was then confirmed the following month, as a Facebook page for the station was finally set up, and a few months later, the station is finally back on the airwaves.
DWAN 1206 operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the 1206 kHz frequency in Mega Manila’s AM radio band.
