The Kapamilya daytime staple has bid farewell to the station.
In a surprise move on Monday, March 4, ABS-CBN’s longest-running morning talk show ‘Magandang Buhay’ has dropped its telecast on TV5.
The news has been confirmed through the social media pages of the show, which only listed Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC, TFC, and A2Z as platforms where it can be seen.
Previously, TV5’s logo was also included in the said cover photo.
As of today, the Kapatid network’s morning line-up consists of a simulcast of the first hour of ‘Ted Failon and DJ Chacha sa Radyo5’ at 6:00 am, a two-hour TV5 Kids block from 7:00 am, telenovela ‘Parientes A La Fuerza’ at 9:00 am, before ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ kicks off at 9:30 am.
Neither ABS-CBN, nor TV5, has made any comments regarding this change in the talk show’s broadcast set-up.
FROM ‘KRISSY’ TO ‘MB’
‘Magandang Buhay’ first launched in April 2016 as a replacement program for ‘Kris TV,’ which ended its five-year run the previous month.
Originally hosted by the trio of Jolina Magdangal, Melai Cantiveros, and Karla Estrada, it was shown on ABS-CBN until the network’s shutdown in May 2020.
It was then carried over to cable channel Kapamilya Channel, before landing a free TV spot anew via A2Z in October 2020.
In June 2022, a new triumvirate was formed in the show, as ‘Asia’s Songbird’ Regine Velasquez-Alcasid permanently replaced Estrada.
As part of the expanding partnership between ABS-CBN and TV5, on February 6, 2023, ‘Magandang Buhay’ finally joined the rest of ABS-CBN’s entertainment offerings shown on the Kapatid network.
Initially, it was screened as a simulcast at 9:00 am, and served as a lead-in to the rest of TV5’s daytime programming.
However, that was soon scrapped, as TV5 opted to create its mid-morning news and information show ‘Gud Morning Kapatid,’ which premiered on June 19, 2023 at 9:30 am.
As a result, ‘Magandang Buhay’ was moved to an earlier time slot of 7:00 am, and shifted to a one-episode-delayed basis on TV5, while retaining the show’s set-up on its other platforms.
SECOND ANCHOR KAPAMILYA SHOW TO LEAVE TV5
The end of ‘Magandang Buhay’ on TV5 also marks the second time a major program of ABS-CBN bowed out of the network.
On June 30, 2023, the the longest-running Kapamilya noontime variety show ‘It’s Showtime’ bade farewell to TV5 as its blocktime agreement with the station ended on the same day.
The end of ‘IS’ on TV5 was also a result of the transfer of ‘Eat Bulaga’ to the Kapatid network after the fallout between Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon and erstwhile producer TAPE, Inc.
Despite the loss of ‘Magandang Buhay’ and ‘It’s Showtime,’ the tie-up between ABS-CBN and TV5 remains strong, as Kapamilya teleseryes, weekend primetime marquee shows, Sunday musical variety show ‘ASAP Natin ‘To,’ and movie block ‘Sunday Blockbusters’ all remain airing on channel 5.
Another testament to the commitment between the partners is the five-year content deal that they signed in June 2023.
‘MOMSHIES’ CONTINUE
‘Magandang Buhay,’ which will be celebrating its 8th anniversary next month, will still continue to air on ABS-CBN platforms and A2Z on free-to-air television.
