Schedule Suggestions: TV5 (PBA Season 48)

We’re now down to the last of this three-part special series.

After the announcement of PBA’s transfer to A2Z, TV5 President Guido Zaballero spilled some tea regarding the network’s newfound proposition. According to him, they are now positioning the Kapatid station as a generalist channel, with strong focus on entertainment and news. Its sister free-to-air channel One Sports, will then concentrate on other sporting properties like the UAAP and the PVL.

As such, they have led to the decision of dropping the PBA on TV5 after 10 years, in favor of moving it to ZOE’s A2Z channel. However, the production of the program will still remain under the reins of the Sports5 team.

In this Schedule Suggestions piece, let’s now see how TV5’s programming grid could evolve from here.

WEEKDAYS

  • 5:00 am – Religious shows
  • 6:00 am – Ted Failon at DJ Chacha
  • 7:00 am – Gud Morning Kapatid
  • 9:00 am – Magandang Buhay (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 10:00 am – TV5 Kids
  • 11:00 am – Face 2 Face
  • 12:00 nn – E.A.T.
  • 2:30 pm – Pira-Pirasong Paraiso (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 3:15 pm – Nag-aapoy na Damdamin (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)

  • 8:00 pm – Primetime Bida on TV5 (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 10:45 pm – Frontline Tonight
  • 11:30 pm – Telenovelas
  • 12:00 mn – Religious shows

Starting with the weekday grid first, mornings in particular. TV5’s morning show ‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ should be transferred to a much earlier slot of 7:00 am, which is rather more suitable for the format. Its move to such slot will also help present an alternative to ‘Unang Hirit’, among other morning shows on free TV.

After which, at 9:00 am, ‘Magandang Buhay’ should move back to the said hour, in order to align it back to its timeslot on the Kapamilya Channel and A2Z. Following that will be programs on the TV5 Kids block.

Throughout the rest of the day, there will be not much of a difference, with the exception of the afternoon ABS-CBN co-produced dramas. ‘Pira-Pirasong Paraiso’ has already been publicized to be moving to 2:30 pm, while ‘Nag-aapoy na Damdamin’ is scheduled at 3:15 pm.

Onto the weekends now.

SATURDAYS

  • 6:00 am – Religious shows
  • 7:00 am – TV5 Kids
  • 9:00 am – Cine Spotlight
  • 10:30 am – For The Love
  • 11:30 am – E.A.T.
  • 2:30 pm – Pira-Pirasong Paraiso (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 3:15 pm – Niña Niño
  • 3:45 pm – Woman In Action
  • 4:30 pm – Rated Korina (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 5:30 pm – Frontline Pilipinas Weekend
  • 6:30 pm – #MaineGoals
  • 7:30 pm – Wow Mali Doble Tama
  • 8:30 pm – Everybody, Sing! (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 10:00 pm – I Can See Your Voice (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 11:00 pm – Lifetime Movies

In this suggested line-up for Saturdays, ‘#MaineGoals’ has been moved to a primetime slot. One reason is for it to go back-to-back with ‘Wow Mali’. Second is to create a Saturday night line-up based on comedy and light entertainment formats.

As for its slot in the morning, it will be filled by a movie block.

Apart from that, following the earlier parts of this special series, newsmagazine show ‘Rated Korina’ will be transferred to an afternoon slot at 4:30 pm. Meanwhile, its fellow ABS-CBN programs ‘Everybody, Sing!’ and ‘I Can See Your Voice’ will move to 8:30 pm and 10:00 pm, respectively.

SUNDAYS

  • 5:00 am – Religious shows
  • 6:00 am – Sunday TV Mass
  • 7:00 am – TV5 Kids

  • 6:30 pm – Emojination
  • 7:30 pm – Jack and Jill sa Diamond Hills
  • 8:30 pm – Everybody, Sing! (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 10:00 pm – I Can See Your Voice (simulcast on Kapamilya Channel and A2Z)
  • 11:00 pm – Britain’s Got Talent

Moving on to Sundays, the suggested refresh begins with ‘FPJ Da King,’ which can be relocated to 10:00 am, in order to assure a tripartite simulcast of the top-rating movie block. Its current 2:15 pm slot will run in conflict with the PBA’s 3:00 pm start.

Following tthat will be a slightly adjusted ‘ASAP Natin ‘To,’ which could air from 11:30 or 11:45 am.

At 2:00 pm, ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ by Steve Harvey could be placed. Before the next show airs at 3:00, TV5 could then air an advisory for viewers to switch over to A2Z for the PBA.

Skipping past through several shows, in similar fashion to Saturday evenings, TV5 could develop its Sunday night line-up to focus on light entertainment programs as well.

The return of the country’s oldest and biggest basketball league ushers in a new era not only for the PBA, but also for both A2Z and TV5, which has now also forged a direct relationship between the two of them years after being brought closer thanks to their mutual ties with ABS-CBN.

As it has been repeatedly stated since part 1, programming changes are truly inevitable in this case. Hopefully, they will also take it as a chance to implement a makeover that will allow them to present something better to the viewing public.

PBA returns to action on November 5 at 3:00 pm on A2Z. Production of the games will remain handled by TV5’s Sports5 unit.
