P-pop rise!
On Friday, April 28, 2023, popular Canadian YouTube channel MsMojo dished out the top 10 bands in the world that they think people should know about. Among them are Filipino acts SB19, BGYO, and Alamat.
First of, Alamat, who landed at the seventh spot. MsMojo said the group is “not interested in cookie-cutter success, but is making P-pop with a purpose.” This is due Alamat’s inclusion of elements of “Filipino influences from music production to video concepts,” the channel added. MsMojo highlighted the group’s record as the second P-pop group to be part of Billboard charts.
BGYO, meanwhile, secured the fifth spot in the chart. “Talent isn’t the only card up on [the group’s] sleeve,” is what MsMojo said on the group. The channel also added that the members “are not just skilled performers, as they also regularly co-write their hit tracks.”
Last but not the least, SB19 took the second spot in the top 10 countdown. MsMojo acknowledged the group’s position as one of the leading P-pop acts of today, saying that the group “is ready for world domination.” Moreover, the channel added that SB19 is also making “South East Asian music history along the way.” “The group’s soaring popularity is also helping put Pinoy music in the mainstream map,” MsMojo furthered.
Just last month, MsMojo also named SB19 as the number 20 ‘Best Modern Boy Bands’ in one of their other charts.
The three P-pop groups joined bands like Now United, XG, Vietnam’s UNI5, Latino pop group Bella Dose, J-pop’s BE:FIRST and JO1, and Britpop’s FLO.
