It will take effect in all public and private senior high schools witg the goal of providing students with clearer pathways to college, jobs, business, and skills development.

The Department of Education (DepEd) is implementing the Strengthened Senior High School (SSHS) curriculum starting with the current school year, with Education Secretary Sonny Angara nitong that is is designed to provide students with a clearer direction after they graduate from basic education.

Under the revised framework, students in the academic track can take electives from clusters such as arts, social sciences, and humanities; business and entrepreneurship; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM); sports, health, and wellness; and field experience.

Students in the technical-professional (techpro) track will now be able to choose electives that are directly aligned with training regulations and industry needs, including agriculture, food innovation, construction, creative arts and design, hospitality and tourism, industrial technologies, ICT, maritime, and human care.

This new curriculum responds to feedback and reviews of the previous SHS setup and works to address issues of fragmentation, subject congestion, and limited or no flexibility.

By streamlining tracks and core subjects, the new system also increases teaching efficiency while further expanding student choice through targeted academic and technical-professional electives.

Despite these changes, the Deped assured senior high school educators that no public school teacher will lose their job due to the simplification of core subjects.

This, as under the transition plan, current core subject teachers in SHS will be strategically assigned to handle related electives, work immersion support, field experience, or learning remediation programs based on their qualifications.

Meanwhile, for private educational institutions, the DepEd clarified adjustments in teaching loads can be done due to the new structure, but schools may also reassign their teachers to teaching electives and various learning support functions that are compatible with their capabilities.

To support the continuity of the system, the DepEd also issued a separate memorandum for the implementation of the Grade 12 SSHS Curriculum in the 887 pilot schools that previously implemented the program in SY 2025–2026 before the mass rollout.

For private senior high schools, the implementation of the SSHS curriculum will remain in line with existing government permits and recognition requirements.
