She also shared her delivery journey on social media.
In a post on Monday, May 25, GMA reporter Mav Gonzales revealed that she has given birth to her first baby with husband Matthew Valeña.
She recalled, “I was sitting on the hospital bed just for a check-up. I felt something leaking. My water bag had broken during an internal exam. I was giving birth anytime now.”
It was at that moment that she called Matthew to get admitted, who at that time, was also so confused and shocked.
“But he did the best a first time dad could do,” told Mav.
She continued, “Labor was so easy. Fully effaced and dilated even if I was getting only mild contractions (I was told my pain tolerance is a history maker in Makati Med lol). The only problem — the baby wasn’t moving down.”
They then tried different positions, such as doing it in the tub, squatting, sitting a stool, and even lying sideways on the bed.
“She still wasn’t moving. And then the doctor said my bladder is already bleeding because the baby’s head was bumping into it,” she further disclosed.
“He gave me an epidural to relax the muscles. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE NOT BEING ABLE TO FEEL OR MOVE MY LEGS.“
The good news is that baby was able to safely come out with the help of a vacuum and revealed that their daughter’s cord was short that “it was like playing a tug of war between the outside world and her placenta.”
“When they placed her on top of my chest, I immediately felt an urge to throw up. I hurriedly told the nurse to give the baby to Matt so he can do skin-to-skin,” Mav remembered her first time physically touching her child.
But, after that, Mav said she was choking on her own vomit because mhe was still laying in bed.
“The doctors had to sew me up because of lacerations. I asked for water. Threw up again the moment it hit my stomach. Then I started shivering, convulsing. I could hear my OB saying I’m losing a lot of blood,” she also divulged.
During that time, Mav shared that she was dipping in and out of consciousness and saw Matthew on the couch in his jeans and silly hair cover holding their daughter.
“He smiled at me. I remember praying ‘God please don’t let me die. Not now that I just got my family.’ I hadn’t even bonded with my baby yet,” she also remembered.
And truly, God heard her prayer. “A body warmer, several stitches and blood transfusions after, I finally got to hold the greatest blessing Matt and I have ever received — a 7.5lb chubby cheeked baby Maya.“
