She will proceed to the next round of the tournament.
On Friday, May 8, Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala returned to the clay court for her Round of 64 match against Chinese netter Wang Xinyu of the Italian Open in Rome, Italy.
The said bout saw Eala, the current world no. 42 face off with Wang, who the world no. 33 and also happens to be the 31st seed in the WTA 1000 tournament.
It started slow for the Pinay player, as she had to contend with the 0-3 deficit in the first few games of the first set, before eventually catching up and taking the lead despite continued challenge from her Chinese opponent.
The second game was no walk in the park for either of them, who both brought their A-game to outlast the other.
Eventually, it was Eala who emerged victorious, taking a win against Wang, 6-4, 6-3. The former was also able to avenge herself following her loss at the ASB Classic in New Zealand last January, where the latter won with 7-5, 5-7, 4-6.
This also makes the Italian Open as Eala’s best performance throughout the ongoing clay season, as she made early exits from the Ladies Linz Open and Stuttgart Open last April.
