Albert Ian Delos Santos makes new world record at IWF World Junior Championships

At the 2026 IWF World Junior Championships, which was held in Ismailia, Egypt on Monday (May 4), Albert Ian Delos Santos participated as the representative from the Philippines.

He competed in the Men’s 71kg Clean and Jerk competition, where he made his outstanding performance with a new world record.

The 19-year-old was able to complete a 187-kilogram lift, where he was able to break his own junior world record once again and winning his third world title.

He broke the record he had created in the competition held in Forde, Norway in October last year, where he first achieved the record 185kg lift.

Two months later, during the 33rd Southeast Asian Games in Thailand in December 2025,he pushed that further by lifting 186kg to claim silver and reset his own record.

Meanwhile, he also achieved a snatch of 139 kilograms, bringing his total to 326 kilograms and win the gold medal in the 71 kg division.

He won over his opponents Yash Khandagale of India, who lifted a total of 309 kilograms for the silver, and Jimmy Lopez from Ecuador, who went home with bronze with his total lift of 301 kilograms.
