It is one of the original series included in the Japanese slate of the global streamer.

On Tuesday, April 28, Netflix unveiled the official trailer for the boys’ love (BL) series entitled Soul Mate, which stars Korean idol-actor Ok Taecyeon and Japanese artist Hayato Isomura.

“Two lonely young souls follow each other around the world for 10 years chasing their once-in-a-lifetime connection,” part of the caption read.

In a prior press release, it was confirmed that Taecyeon will portray the character Yohan, while Hayato will play the part of Ryo.

As per the log line shared, the story takes place when Ryo Narutaki inadvertently destroyed the life of his best friend, prompting him to abandon everything and leave Japan behind.

He nearly dies at a church in a foreign country before he is saved by a Korean boxer named Johan Hwang. Both men carry deep, unhealed wounds, and as their lonely souls gravitate toward one another, it soon becomes clear that they are soul mates.”

It continued, “Drawn by fate, they decide to live together. Their journey takes them through Berlin, Seoul and Tokyo, where they experience a breadth of emotions: unforgettable pain, suffering and, ultimately, joy.”

Netflix also added, “Soul Mate is a tender romance between two young men, unfolding over the course of 10 years.

The series is written and directed by Shunki Hashizume, who has established himself as an author, screenwriter and director with works such as his novel Scroll, which was adapted into a film, and the drama More Than Words, which he also directed.

It will be released globally, exclusively on Netflix on May 14.
